We offer counseling for couples at all stages of their relationship including partners who are in new relationships, thinking of ending their relationship, or who have been together for many years and are struggling with issues that couples often face in the lifespan of a relationship including: infidelity, intimacy, trust issues, and life transitions. We welcome diversity and recognize that relationship challenges are universal but also influenced by social and cultural context. Our approach incorporates various evidence-based models for couples including:
Based on the work of Alan E. Fruzzetti, PhD, a leader in the application of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for couples and families, this approach incorporates the evidence-based skills of DBT including emotional and behavioral self-regulation, validation, accurate expression, and acceptance of yourself and your partner. In this approach couples are helped to recognize and understand their ineffective relational patterns, and to learn and practice the steps necessary to break the negative cycles and build a satisfying and lasting connection.
The Gottman method was developed by John and Julie Gottman. It is a scientifically sound approach to helping couples, which is based on years of clinical research. The Gottman approach strives to assist the partners in achieving a deeper sense of understanding, awareness, empathy, and connection within their relationships ultimately leading to heightened intimacy and interpersonal growth.
The Gottman method takes the work in marriage counseling and couples counseling beyond the therapy office and helps couples to integrate the practices into their daily lives together with the goal of building lasting and satisfying partner relationships.
In addition to marriage counseling and couples counseling we offer a range of services including the Gottman Method, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based psychotherapies, trauma therapies, DBT for Couples and more.
